Profit in Labor

So, the last time, our discussion was about laziness, today’s message is the concluding part and I have put together 25 of my favorite Bible verses on the subject matter. I hope these verses bless you as much as they have been blessing me and helped transform me.

Proverbs 14: 23 “In all labor there is profit, But mere talk leads only to poverty”. (NASB)

Proverbs 22: 29 “If u do your job well, you will work for a ruler and never be a slave”. (CEV)

Proverbs 21: 5 “If you plan and work hard, you will have plenty”. (CEV)

Proverbs 12: 24 “Work hard and become a leader; be lazy and become a slave”. (NLT)
Proverbs 10: 4 “Lazy people are soon poor; hard workers get rich”. (NLT)

Proverbs22: 7 “The rich rules over the poor, And the borrower is servant to the lender”. (NKJV)

Proverbs 10: 15 “The wealth of the rich is their fortress; the poverty of the poor is their destruction”. (NLT)

Proverbs 19: 4 “Wealth maketh many friends; but the poor is separated from his neighbor”. (KJV)

Proverbs 14: 20 “The poor man is hated even by his own neighbor, But the rich has many friends”. (NKJV)

Proverbs 21: 25 “Lazy people’s desire for sleep will kill them, because they refuse to work”. (NCV)

Proverbs 20: 4 “The lazy man will not plow because of winter; He will beg during harvest and have nothing”. (NKJV)

Proverbs 13: 4 “The sluggard craves and gets nothing, but the desires of the diligent are fully satisfied”.  (NIV)

Proverbs 18: 9 “A person who doesn’t work hard is just like someone who destroys things” (NCV)

Proverbs 12: 11a “He who tills his land will be satisfied with bread” (NKJV)

1 Thessalonians 5: 14 “Brothers and sisters, we urge you to warn those who are lazy. Encourage those who are timid. Take care of those who are weak. Be patient with everyone”.  (NLT)

Proverbs 28:19 “A hard worker has plenty of food, but a person who chases fantasies ends up in poverty”. (NIV)

Galatians 6:9 “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up”. (NIV)

2 Thessalonians 3:10b "The one who is unwilling to work shall not eat."  (NIV)

Ephesians 6: 5-9 “Work with enthusiasm, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people. Remember that the Lord will reward each one of us for the good we do, whether we are slaves or free”.  (NLT)

Luke 16:11-13 “So if you have not been trustworthy in handling worldly wealth, who will trust you with true riches? And if you have not been trustworthy with someone else’s property, who will give you property of your own? No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.” (CEV)

Proverbs 23: 4 "Do not overwork to be rich; Because of your own understanding, cease!" (NKJV)

Deuteronomy 8: 18 "And you shall remember the LORD your God, for it is He who gives you power to get wealth, that He may establish His covenant which He swore to". (NKJV)

Colossians 3:23
"Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters". (NIV)

Ecclesiastes 3:22
"So I saw that there is nothing better for a person than to enjoy their work, because that is their lot. For who can bring them to see what will happen after them"? (NIV)

Psalm 128:2
"You will eat the fruit of your labor; blessings and prosperity will be yours". (NIV)

So I urge you to work hard, knowing that there is profit in labor and you will surely reap what you sow. Have a restful weekend.

P.S: Now you know why I am merry, even while working :)

Anon 9.44, in my opinion, I don't think your riches should hinder you from serving God because God gave you those things. In whatever situation we find ourselves, we are meant to glorify God.

Remember that it is written in 1 Timothy 6: 17 that "Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment.” In as much as you do not put your hope, faith and security in your riches, but in God, you will have a clear mind as to how to serve Him even with your riches. "Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth" Colossians 3: 2. I know this seems almost impossible to do but remember that "you can do all things through Christ who strengthens you" Philippians 4:13.

I pray God helps us all as we make the prayer of Agur our prayer "Two things I ask of you, O LORD; do not refuse me before I die: Keep falsehood and lies far from me; give me neither poverty nor riches, but give me only my daily bread. Otherwise, I may have too much and disown you and say, 'Who is the LORD?' Or I may become poor and steal, and so dishonor the name of my God". Proverbs 30: 7 - 9. Amen
